Sharon Cuneta expresses support for De Lima, calls for her release

Megastar Sharon Cuneta expressed her solidarity with Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima who is marking her 5th year in unjust detention today (Feb. 24)

During a campaign sortie in Tarlac City led by Cuneta’s husband, Vice Presidentiable and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, and in a separate video message published as part of “Leilaya: Araw ni Leila” today, the actress called for De Lima’s freedom.

“We really miss you out here. We need you more out here. You can do so much more out here. And we keep praying that you be allowed out soon or that you are out, somehow by God’s grace and never-ending mercy,” Cuneta said.

De Lima, who is seeking reelection, was represented by her Chief of Staff, Atty. Fhillip Sawali, during the Tarlac sortie. Jillian Robredo and Laya Diokno were also present as representatives for Presidentiable aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo and senatorial aspirant Atty. Chel Diokno, respectively.

Meanwhile, Cuneta’s video message was among the clips played as part of the program on De Lima’s 5th year of unjust detention which was highlighted by messages of love, songs, and poems from artists, performers and various groups.

Cuneta, who said she adores De Lima, shared that the Senator may be unjustly detained, but they have never forgotten about her.

“We haven’t forgotten about you (Sen. Leila). Frankie and I adore you and pray for you, and you are so courageous and inspiring and you should not be in there,” said the actress.

“I keep praying for you, Senator Leila and I hope to give you a big hug when I see you finally. Hopefully sooner than we all expect. Frankie and I love you. God Bless you po!” she added. (30)
