Another hearing in one of the trumped-up illegal drug trading cases against Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima was cancelled after the Prosecution once again failed to present its witness last Nov. 27.

Atty. Fhillip Sawali, De Lima’s Chief-of-Staff, confirmed that the Prosecution was supposed to present a certain Sally Serrano, an alleged niece of drug lord convict Peter Co, as their final witness before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 205, for Criminal Case No. 17-166 but Serrano was a “no-show.”

Still, Sawali said the court gave the Prosecution a last chance to present their witness over the vehement objection of the defense as the hearing has been delayed many times already.

The hearing was reset to Dec. 4.

De Lima, who has been unjustly detained for almost four years now, attended the hearing via teleconferencing from her detention quarters at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Last Nov. 24, the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 256, also cancelled a hearing in one of the trumped-up illegal drug trading cases against De Lima because prosecution witness, Engelberto Durano, was also a no-show. (30)
