Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has extended her warm greetings to Muslims here and abroad in their celebration of the Islamic holiday Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice that commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim today (July 20).
In a message, De Lima said she hopes that the celebration of the meaningful occasion would remind Filipinos, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, of the importance of compassion, solidarity and unwavering faith during these challenging times.
Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice and show his commitment to Allah by proving his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael.
It is one of two of the most important holidays on the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid’l Fitr, which marks the culmination of the month-long fast during Ramadan.
De Lima, a social justice and human rights champion, said Filipinos should work together to offer support to those who continue to suffer the lost of their loves ones due to decades-long violence and suffer the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Magmalasakit tayo at bigyang lakas ang isa’t isa upang mapabilis ang pagbangon ng mga kababayan nating mas nangangailangan—mula sa mga naiipit pa rin sa deka-dekadang hidwaan, mga nawalan ng mga mahal sa buhay, kabuhayan at tahanan dahil sa karahasan, hanggang sa mga nakararanas ng mas matinding gutom at hirap dahil sa pandemya,” she said.
“Let us keep praying for our beloved country and countrymen,” the lady Senator from Bicol added.
