Worst time having the worst President. Rich in hubris and bravado. Bankrupt in empathy and good governance skills. Unhinged, as manifested once again in his April 3 “Talk to the Nation on COVID-19”, so-called. (Sumakit ang ulo ko after reading the transcript.)

There’s proper time for reckoning and accountability. It’s right now! No more excuses and distractions via sickening rants.

And right now, we need to muster all sense of benevolence and patriotism that we have, and are capable of, to be part of the solution. This President is hopelessly deranged. We have to help ourselves and save our country.

But while we ceaselessly put up with Duterte’s infantile and putrid ways, and call out his government for its shortcomings and ineptness, we must also do our own share to keep our country afloat amid this grave crisis. Let’s fight this contagion together, with or without Duterte. For survival.

To paraphrase Pope Francis’ recent exhortation to all the faithful: Be not afraid! For our anchor, our rudder and our hope, the Lord, “will not leave us at the mercy of the storm.”
